TANZANIA - Developing awareness and professional skills of IP tools in Tanzania

In the United Republic of Tanzania, Intellectual Property rights aspects were introduced by colonial administration in 1922. After the independence in 1961 there was no any significant changes on the contents of IP legal system till the new Copyright Legislation was enacted in 1999. It is the current Copyright Legislation in force. In the global knowledge economy, IP rights and the innovations are meant to spur are vital determinants in achieving broad-based, accelerated and sustainable economic growth.

There is a great need for strengthening the innovation, research and development capacities in Tanzania. The purpose of this contract is to promote a greater understanding of IP tools and management practice among key stakeholder at public, private and academic levels.
